The Blue Cross is a leading charity in the field of animal behaviour, and this enables us to have an incredibly low percentage of pets return to us after being rehomed.

Of those pets that are returned, most will have their behaviour problems resolved or managed at the centre because the majority of issues are overcome by:

  • providing a more suitable activity
  • a change of environment
  • rehoming the animal with a different type of owner who does not see it as a problem due to their different experiences or expectations

Ongoing assessment of animals in our care is essential for successful rehabilitation and rehoming. It is important we do everything to rehome correctly the first time around.

Failing to do rehome successfully first time costs money and time, and has a negative impact on the animal's welfare. Moving from home to home and being brought back into kennels or catteries (however well-run) is unsettling and distressing for dogs and cats. In all cases, follow-up behaviour advice and support can often help the new owner to resolve the problem.
