Most of the few animals needing rehabilitation can be can be helped with sensible handling and a well-informed approach. The process begins as soon as the animal arrives at The Blue Cross, by taking a full case history.

Building a profile
Regardless of how the animal comes to us, questions are asked about its temperament, ability to be left alone, socialisation and relationship with people. Questions relating directly to the type of animal (dog or cat) are also asked.

Ongoing assessments are then made while in our care. This is particularly important for animals with no case history – such as strays. These assessments are not carried out through tests, but by day-to-day handling of the animal, including grooming and walking. Real life situations are far more useful and predictive than contrived tests.
