Lewknor fun day and dog show in aid of needy animals

10 July 2008

Animal lovers are invited to an open day at The Blue Cross pet charity in Lewknor on Sunday 20th July from 11am until 4pm. Proceeds from the day will go towards caring for the homeless and unwanted dogs and cats at the animal adoption centre on the London Road.

Enter your pooch in the Dog Show and maybe you’ll pick up a prize. Categories range from ‘waggiest tail’ to ‘best rescue’ and ‘most appealing eyes’, so your dog is bound to be in with a chance!

Children can spring into action on the bouncy castle and take part in organised games, as well as getting their faces painted and having a go in the pet lucky dip. Grown-ups might prefer to browse the stalls, which will be selling crafts, plants, bric-a-brac and much more. Refreshments will also be available.

Julie Stone, Blue Cross centre manager at Lewknor said: “We’re all really looking forward to this year’s Open Day, it’s a wonderful family day out. There’ll be something for everyone so it will be great if lots of people come along to support their local Blue Cross.”

The Blue Cross does not receive any government funding so it relies on the support of the public to continue its vital work. Money raised on the day will go towards helping animals like Poppy, a collie cross. Poppy is a sensitive girl who came to The Blue Cross because she was finding it hard to cope living in a busy household. She’s very bright and quick to learn and would love to carry on her training in an adult-only home where she’s the only pet. But she’d love the opportunity to meet other doggie pals for socialising in the park.

For further information about the open day or animals that are looking for homes, please contact The Blue Cross at Lewknor on 01844 355293.

The Blue Cross animal charity provides practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. Through its network of small animal and equine adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year.
