| The Blue Cross, Britains pet charity, is offering animal lovers the chance to experience the ultimate fundraising challenge driving their own team of huskies through the wilds of Norway or Lapland. On both trips participants will handle their team of huskies in a challenging environment where the relationship between handler and dogs is vital for safety. Intrepid adventurers will become familiar with the rudiments of dog sledding, from how a dog sled works to using the ice brake and a snow anchor. The seven-day Norwegian trek begins 120 miles north of the Artic Circle in Alta, in the far north of the country. Travelling through the stunning frozen landscape to Gargia and on through wild forests to Sarapovia, the trek continues along the Jiesjokka River all the way to the beautiful lakes of Jiesavri and Jotka. Following a night camping in the forest, participants will sled downhill back to Gargia to relax in a hot tub or sauna. After a gala dinner, participants will head off to an Ice Hotel for a drink before heading back to their lodge. The six-day Lapland trek traverses rolling highlands and deep forests, before crossing the border into Sweden and arriving at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjariv. Sleeping in native Sami tents, watching the Aurora Borealis and tending the dogs, will help participants gain an insight in living as Laplanders do. The Blue Cross is one of Britains oldest animal welfare charities and relies entirely on donations to fund its valuable work. Participants in these treks will be asked to pledge a minimum amount of sponsorship.
