Dogs pass excellence test

Seven rescue dogs at The Blue Cross adoption centre in Southampton have been received the Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award.

Charlie, Lottie, Bruno, Sam, Jess, Blue, and Miska are the centre’s first dogs to sit the test, and are all looking for new homes. Staff have been training the dogs over the past weeks and now the dogs have all a good general standard of obedience, including being sociable around humans and canine friends, walking well on a lead, coming when called and staying in one position for a minute. Staff are delighted the dogs achieved the Bronze Award and feel they are all top dogs.

Deputy manager Lara Alford said: “It’s really fantastic that all these dogs, who were given up to us through a variety of circumstances, have done so well. Staff have really worked hard to train them and these results show that rescue dogs can be trained and can behave as well as any other dog. All of these dogs are looking for homes and we think that this extra training is going to give them a head start in being adopted. Anyone who is interested should come to the centre.”

All Blue Cross dogs are carefully assessed to make sure they go to the right home. Each animal is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.

Anyone thinks they can offer a home to any of the award winning dogs at the centre should call 023 8069 2894, or visit The Blue Cross adoption centre on at Bubb Lane, West End, Southampton.

Notes to editors
The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
