The Blue Cross equine centre in Burford has held two hugely successful equine events this month that have both helped to raised over £2000 towards its work rehabilitating homeless or neglected horses and ponies. Hundreds of competitors and spectators at the Horse and Dressage Shows enjoyed 40 classes over the two events including in hand & ridden showing, show jumping and dressage. Amanda Winstone, manager at The Blue Cross equine centre at Burford, said: We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attend these two events and helped to make them so successful. The money raised will help countless other needy horses and ponies. Winners at the events included Pauline Parker, riding Whissett, who won the Preliminary dressage test 18. The winner of the Best Family Horse or Pony was won by Midge, who was ridden by Barbara Edmonds. Miss Dawn Long, riding Spicy, won the Best Veteran category. The Blue Crosss equine centres are not retirement sanctuaries. The charitys goal is for all its animals to be given a second chance in a worthwhile, fulfilling new home. This means that new cases can only be admitted to the centres once horses have been successfully rehomed. The Blue Cross is funded solely by public donations and relies on the support of animal lovers to help the hundreds of needy horses it cares for every year. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
