Councillor Margaret Solomon, Grimsby Animal Hospital Appeal Chairman and Mayor of North East Lincolnshire has given the charity appeal a welcome boost in the shape of a sizable donation. The donation, which amounts to over £7,000, was raised by the Mayors charity during Councillor Solomons time in office. The new Blue Cross animal hospital on Nelson Road, Grimsby, opened its doors to local pets last week, following the closure of the charitys old hospital on Cleethorpe Road. With two modern operating theatres, four examination clinics and new laboratory, the hospital will continue to provide the high standard of care that The Blue Cross has given pets in the area since 1959. The animal charity still has £20,000 to raise to complete the project and fully equip the new site and are relying on the local community to help reach its target of £850,000. Anyone who would like to help the appeal can contact the appeal office on 01472 353435 or email grimsbyappealinfo@bluecross.org.uk. Notes to editors The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
