The Blue Cross small animal adoption centre in Torbay is to offer subsidised neutering to pets in Devon to help reduce the number of unwanted litters, and to help keep dogs and cats healthy. The pet charity will contribute to the cost of neutering at pet owners usual veterinary surgery. Neutering dogs and cats can reduce the incidence of various cancers and the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Finding new homes for unwanted litters puts a drain on charity resources and is an increasing problem. Centre manager, Laura Valentine said: We are trying to help people who cannot afford private vets fees in order to keep their animals safer, healthier and reduce the number of unwanted litters in Devon. We feel this is a vital service and look forward to our first clients taking us up on the offer. Clients wishing to use the service need to be on a state pension with no other form of income, or on a low income and receiving means tested benefits. Anyone who would like to find out more about the services should visit The Blue Cross adoption centre on Ashley Priors Lane, Watcombe, Torquay TQ1 4SE, or call 01803 327 728. Notes to editors The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners.
