The Blue Cross charity shop in Fleet is appealing to local residents to have a clear out and donate any unwanted saleable items to help animals in the pet charity's care. Karen Reid, manager of the shop on Fleet Road, said: If anyone has been on a spending spree in the summer sales and needs to make room for their new purchases, we would love to receive unwanted bits and pieces that we can sell. Recently, people that have wanted to donate goods to us have been put off because access to the shop has been limited by road works, but we would be so grateful if people could go the extra mile to help us out. The Blue Cross has 11 small animal adoption centres around the UK, including one in Southampton, four equine centres and four animal hospitals. Last year, The Blue Cross adoption centres cared for 2,278 dogs, 3,037 cats, 314 other small pets and 400 horses. Blue Cross veterinary staff carried out 81,984 operations, consultations and diagnostic procedures for pet owners that couldn't afford private pet fees. Anyone that would like to donate items to The Blue Cross can visit the shop at 187 Fleet Road or call shop manager Karen Reid on 01252 627133.
