The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Thirsk has fallen victim of vandals after find that the charitys welcome sign was cut off a steel post with bolt cutters. Jackie Haw, deputy centre manger, found the sign on the ground in the early hours of Tuesday 7 February. This is the third time in past 24 months that the sign has been purposefully damaged, or stolen. The bolt cutters used by the vandals have damaged the sign, which is an extra cost to the charity. Jackie Haw said: Its terrible that someone wants to cause damage to charitys property, and that they dont consider that we are a charity who have to spend supporters money fixing the problem. Our sign is one of the ways we let people know where we are, and it helps us rehome animals. We cant understand why anyone would act so thoughtlessly. The Blue Cross centre cares for Thirsks homeless animals and finds them permanent, loving homes. Currently there are approximately ten cats and 15 dogs looking for new owners. All animals leave The Blue Cross having been microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.
