The Blue Cross Britain's pet charity

Dog shows

The Blue Cross, Britain's pet charity, is calling on dog show organisers across the UK to make it their charity of the year and raise funds for its invaluable work caring for needy animals.

The charity is hoping that the many dog shows and dog agility trials held up and down the UK this summer can help support its work providing free veterinary care to pet owners that can't afford private vets' fees and looking after dogs and cats that have become homeless through no fault of their own. Support materials, including prize rosettes, will be provided by the charity.

In 2005 The Blue Cross found happy new homes for over 2,000 dogs, around 3,000 cats and nearly 400 rabbits and other small animals. The charity also saw nearly 60,000 animals pass through its hospital doors.

Heather Collin, events officer at The Blue Cross said: Without the support of the dedicated animal lovers throughout the UK we would not be able to continue our important work. Anyone that is organising a dog show and would like us as their charity of the year, should get in touch we can support events in a variety of ways including providing materials, like rosettes.

Notes to editors
