Burford foals are named

Lucky competition winners have named two foals that arrived at Burford equine centre in the summer.

The first foal, born to Mia, will be called ‘Rufus’. Competition winner Rhiannon O'Neil from Alton in Hampshire, explained the reason for the name is because Mia is a New Forest pony and there is a stone in the New Forest called the ‘Rufus’ stone. She also explains that Rufus means red and that the foal is a red-brown colour.

The second, born to Indiana was named ‘Harrison’ by both Linda Thompson from Rossendale, Lancs and Finola McConville from Newry in County Down. Both chose the name Harrison because of the link with Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford playing the lead in the films.

The lucky winners will receive a photo of the foal they named and a signed certificate.

Rufus and Harrison will be weaned together and will be ideal companions for each other. Once they reach the age of four they will be backed and eventually placed in approved homes, on a monitored loan basis, enabling them to lead useful and active lives.
