The new Blue Cross animal hospital on Nelson Road, Grimsby, opened its doors to local pets on Wednesday 13 July, following the closure of the charitys old hospital on Cleethorpe Road. The hospital boasts two modern operating theatres, four examination clinics and a new laboratory, ensuring The Blue Cross can continue to provide the high standard of care it has given pets in the area since 1959. The need for a new hospital was identified three years ago, and local people have helped raise thousands for a state-of-the-art facility. The hospital at the old site was becoming increasingly cramped and the staff faced a struggle to provide treatment there. Louise Ayre, chief veterinary surgeon, said: We are very pleased with the new hospital, not only have our work conditions improved dramatically but we will be able to offer local clients and their animals a more efficient and extended range of services. Regional fundraiser, Julie Donn, said: Local people have been fantastic in fundraising for the new hospital - with their help animals in the area will always have access to the highest standards of care. (The opening) marks the end of 18 months of fundraising and building but not the end of our appeal. We still need more funds, so any further donations are welcome.
