Boris Johnson, the MP for Henley, unveiled a commemorative plaque and officially opened the new Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Lewknor, Oxon on Friday 9 September.

The ceremony took place with invited guests from the local area and Blue Cross supporters. The completed centre has been operational since April and includes state of the art kennels and cattery.

The Blue Cross has been looking after the area’s needy pets for the last 60 years and this new centre offers the highest standard of facilities and care for homeless animals. Many animals have already been rehomed from the centre, including Luke, a collie puppy, who appeared on the Paul O’Grady Show.

Centre manager, Julie Stone (pictured with Boris Johnson) said: “The centre is now up and running, and we are delighted to be able to celebrate with local people and Blue Cross supporters. We are very grateful to Boris Johnson for coming to unveil the plaque and declare the centre finished. We look forward to carrying on the work we have been doing in this area for the last six decades and helping more pets find the homes they deserve.”
