Blue Cross president honoured by French ambassador

Tom Vyner CBE

Blue Cross president Tom Vyner, CBE.

The Blue Cross president Tom Vyner CBE, has been awarded a high honour - Chevalier in the National Order of Merit - by the French Ambassador for his services to strengthening economic relations between France and the United Kingdom.

Mr Vyner, who took over presidency of the charity in 2006 from Dr Alastair Porter CBE, was a member of The Blue Cross Board from 1997 to 2000 and an active member of the fundraising committee for the new Blue Cross Victoria animal hospital.

In a letter from the French ambassador to Mr Vyner, his professional activities were highlighted as "strengthening ties between France and the United Kingdom."

With a long business career at Sainsbury's, Tom Vyner was influential in securing the association The Blue Cross has had with Sainsbury's, who still stock the animal care range of pet products which continue to bring valuable income to the charity.
