Blue Cross charity shop in Hereford

Open for business: BBC radio presenter Katie Johnson (middle) cuts the ribbon to officially open the shop, along with shop manager Jayne Kidner (left) and Blue Cross head of trading, Jonathan Chambers.

The Blue Cross has officially opened its fifth charity shop, on St Peter's Street in Hereford. Local BBC Radio presenter Katie Johnson was guest of honour at the opening on 24 May, and shoppers came along to pick up a bargain and join in the celebrations.

Katie, who hosts the BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester Mid-Morning show, also broadcast the event live on her show. Blue Cross shop manager Jayne Kidner said: "We're delighted to have a shop like this in Hereford. Since we opened last month the shop has proved to be a popular spot for visitors to pick up a bargain and learn more about the work of The Blue Cross; many locals have already remarked at how chic it looks! This opening will help to ensure funds are available for the sick and abandoned animals in our care."

The Hereford shop sells clothes and accessories, books, household items, toys and a range of greetings cards. It also stocks Blue Cross information and pet care advice literature.

Animal lovers who are able to spare time to volunteer in the shop can contact the manager, Jayne Kidner, on 01432 278 168. Any saleable donations of clothes, household bric-a-brac and books will be gratefully received by the shop at 7 St Peter's Street.
