Children at Happy Tots nursery in Stafford welcomed some special Valentine's visitors this year. Representatives from the The Blue Cross and the Benefit Dog Training organisation went along to judge artwork produced by the children and choose some worthy winners. Blue Cross volunteers Dave Deakin and Vickie Vigurs-Berry, along with springer spaniel volunteer dog Millie, were able to offer some advice to staff and children about looking after pets and approaching dogs safely. "Unfortunately, we hear so many terrible stories about children being injured particularly by dogs," explained Benefit's senior instructor Dave Deakin, who is also a Blue Cross volunteer speaker. "The nursery is to be congratulated for taking such a sensible approach to this issue. It is all about learning some important safety rules that should help these children to grow up with a respect and affection for any family pet." The three winners received a Valentine teddy and all the children and staff enjoyed some chocolate buttons. Many thanks to the nursery staff and children for a lovely morning. February 2007 |
