The Blue Cross is celebrating the launch of its 14th shop this week.

Our newest charity shop, in Hungerford, will be officially opened by the Mayor Elizabeth Cardwell.

Local people are welcome join the festivities, on Tuesday 9 March.

Come and enjoy a drink and a slice of cake as you browse for bargains and find out more about our work helping sick and homeless animals.

The Mayor will cut the ribbon at 3pm and there will also be the opportunity for children to meet the charity’s giant mascot, Barney the dog. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the shop.

Blue Cross shop manager in Hungerford, Jane Angel, said: “We have a lovely location here in Hungerford and would like to encourage as many people as possible to visit the shop.

“Why not pop in for a look around as you’re walking along the canal? And with spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to have a clearout at home and bring your unwanted items in to us.

“We are very grateful for any donations and all the money we raise in the shop goes towards the care of poorly and homeless pets.”

Jane would also like to encourage local businesses to help. She explains: “We need a lot of stock to keep the shop going and would like to encourage local companies to get involved.

“If they ask their employees to bring in at least one quality item each on a given day, The Blue Cross would be happy to collect the donations.

“Just £20 will help keep an animal warm and comfortable while we find it a loving new home, so every little helps.”

Any animal lovers with time to spare who are interested in joining the shop’s team of volunteers should pop into the shop at 1 High Street to find out more or call manager Jane for a chat on 01488 684151.
