A dog has been rehomed after suffering extensive burns when she stumbled on to train tracks in Bootle.

The stray animal survived an electric shock at Bootle New Strand railway station in May after bystanders acted quickly to save her life.

The dog, subsequently renamed as Sylvia, was treated for severe injuries to her legs and back before being taken into care at Fir Tree Animal Sanctuary, Spurriers Lane.

Kerry Jones, 36, a volunteer, noted that Sylvia would have been destroyed if she had not been taken in at the centre given that nobody had claimed her seven days after the accident.

Speaking to the Bootle Times, she said: "At the animal sanctuary we have a no destruction policy so I knew this would be the best place for her."

Sylvia has subsequently left the sanctuary behind after finding a new home with a disabled woman in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire.ADNFCR-1137-ID-18668329-ADNFCR
