Sweetpea

Sweetpea is enjyoing her new lease of life

Sweetpea-in-field

Sweetpea was sadly found abandoned in the lanes of an Oxfordshire village in a severely neglected state. Many horses come to our equine centres suffering from neglect, ill treatment or behavioural difficulties. To ensure they get the best possible chance of rehoming, we individually tailor rehabilitation and training for each horse.

Sweetpea was rehabilitated by The Blue Cross and found a new home. Her new owner, Mrs Proudlock had been looking for a friend to keep her own horse, Molly, company as Molly didn't like being on her own. The Blue Cross had been recommend to Mrs Proudlock by a friend, so she visited the Burford equine centre, where she met Sweetpea for the first time.

Mrs Proudlock had Sweetpea's sad background explained to her and was told she could never be ridden again. Knowing this, Mrs Proudlock was sure she could give Sweetpea the love and attention she needed.

Sweetpea was initially very nervous when she went to her new home, and it took several months of patience and perseverance on the part of Mrs Proudlock before Sweetpea began to settle in. Happily, Sweetpea seems now to be enjoying her new life. She has found a great friend in Molly and follows contentedly behind her when Mrs Proudlock leads Molly back to the stables.

She has come a long way since she was originally brought to The Blue Cross. She is still quite nervous but slowly, day-by-day, she is becoming a confident and happy pony just as she should be.
